Low self-esteem can affect every aspect of life by negatively impacting mental, physical, and spiritual health. Social connections and outlook on life both suffer and can become more challenging and increasingly negative. Emotional healing has helped many who suffer from low self-regard and can be a powerful way to help build back self-esteem by releasing negative emotions and focusing on the positive instead.
What is Low Self-Esteem?
How a person feels about themselves impacts every aspect of their lives. Individuals with low self-esteem usually think poorly of themselves, overlook their strengths, and focus on the negative. Those that suffer from low self-esteem may not feel confident, may experience anxiety, and may criticize themselves. Alternatively, those who believe in themselves and hold themselves in high esteem are more likely to be confident, assured, kinder to themselves, and believe in their own abilities.
At the root of low self-esteem are the beliefs and opinions held about oneself. These can come from traumatic experiences that happen early in life, Trapped Emotions, a lack of warmth and love, disappointing others, and more. Because our own opinions and beliefs are the central causes of low self-esteem, those are things that can be worked on and improved! With inner-work, self-reflection, and emotional healing negative opinions and stories can be rewritten!
How to Heal Emotionally from Low Self-Esteem
Observe your inner voice:
Notice when your inner voice is being critical. We’re constantly speaking to ourselves, and for those with low self-esteem, that inner voice can say a lot of negative things! The first step towards changing those negative thoughts is to notice when they’re happening.
Reframe negative thoughts:
When you’ve identified a critical thought, try reframing that negativity. If you catch yourself thinking, “I’m so bad at this, I’ll never succeed” try changing the thought to, “I’m still learning how to do this; I’ll get better if I keep trying.” Whenever your inner monologue suggests negative thoughts, try to reframe them in a more positive light. As you continue to switch these negatives to positives, you’ll notice the practice becoming more of a habit. Maybe you’ll even begin to think fewer negative thoughts in the first place!
Practice positive affirmations:
When you consistently hear negative things about yourself (even if they’re coming from your own mind!) you’ll start to believe them. The opposite is true too! If you tell yourself “I am strong” on a daily basis, you’ll begin to believe in your own strength. And if you believe in your strength, you’ll act from a place of being a strong person. Practice saying positive affirmations to yourself on a daily basis, and see how they impact your self-esteem!
Accept support:
We can all use a little help sometimes. When suffering from low self-esteem, it can be helpful to seek out support from professionals. There are a wide array of natural healing practitioners that can help with emotional healing for improved self-esteem. Working with a life coach, a counselor or therapist, and energetic healers can help you work through the Trapped Emotions that may be holding you back from your full potential!
